The Sierra de Aracena and Picos de Aroche is one of the most fertile as fungi are concerned, with some 600 known species between edible and toxic.
The conditions that favor its development are: climate, Mediterranean subhumid with rainfall over 1000 mm per year, from autumn to spring, with mild temperatures, a diverse topography with elevations ranging between 1000 m and 400 m, which develops landscapes of mountains, valleys, plains, areas of shade, of sunshine, etc., a growth of chestnuts, oaks, cork, pine, mixed forests, thickets, etc.., which allow the formation of favorable soil for fungi.
By linking these three factors, we find a wide range of habitats with an abundance of mushrooms, for almost all months of the year, less in summer. The most popular mushrooms are the tentullo (Boletus edulis), the tana (Amanita Caesarea), the Josefita (Agaricus campestris), the gallipierno (Macrolepiota procera), the gurumelo (Amanita ponderosa), the cagarria (Morchella sculenta), those between the food, and among the toxic Amanita muscaria, Boletus satanas, Entoloma lividum and mesenteric Tremella.
