The Sierra de Aracena y Picos de Aroche is a region which has numerous shrines to those addressed pilgrims. Almost all pilgrimages are held in May and in almost all villages in the region, but what stands out above the rest, is the Pilgrimage of Our Lady of the Angels, considered by many to be Patron of the Sierra. This procession is celebrated on September 8 in the Peña de Arias Montano, and seems to go back to the sixteenth century, when there was a market near the shrine. The pilgrimage begins with the Poleo procession leading from Alájar to La Peña, taking symbolic possession of it, in an attempt to mark the independence of this community relative to Aracena. Participation in the pilgrimages of the Sierra not only offers the advantage of colorful and attend parties with a great tradition, but also to approach beautiful natural landscapes.
